Chapter One: The Beginning

Every journey starts with a decision.

Mine started with a thought.

A thought that I wanted more for myself.

Not because I was unhappy with who I was, but because I knew there was a stronger version of me waiting to be discovered.

Walking into a gym for the first time felt intimidating. I didn’t know what any of the machines did. I didn’t understand training programmes or progressive overload. I had no idea what exercises I should be doing or whether I was doing them correctly. I was stepping into a world that felt completely unfamiliar.

But I knew why I was there.

I wanted to gain healthy weight. I wanted to build muscle. I wanted to become fitter. I wanted to feel stronger, not just physically but mentally too.

Looking back now, I realise my gym journey was never really about the gym.

It was about becoming.

At that point in my life, I wanted to build more than my body. I wanted to build myself from the inside out. I wanted to become stronger in my mind, wiser in my decisions, healthier in my habits, and more disciplined in the promises I made to myself.

As a mum, I wanted more energy to keep up with my daughters. I wanted to feel good in my own skin. I wanted to show them what it looks like when a woman invests in herself, not out of vanity, but out of self-respect.

The gym became my starting point.

It wasn’t because I knew exactly what I was doing. It was because I was willing to learn.

Every workout was a lesson. Every mistake taught me something. Every time I walked through those doors, I was proving to myself that growth doesn’t begin when you have all the answers, it begins when you’re brave enough to start anyway.

There were days I questioned myself. Days when I wondered if I’d ever see progress. Days when I felt like everyone else knew what they were doing except me.

But I kept showing up.

Because I had a vision.

I could already picture the woman I wanted to become. She was confident. She was healthy. She was disciplined. She took care of herself without guilt. She understood that becoming the best version of herself wasn’t selfish, it was necessary.

That vision became bigger than my fear.

The weights I lifted were building muscle, but they were also building resilience. The routines I created were building consistency. The confidence I was searching for wasn’t waiting for me at the finish line it was being built every single day I chose not to give up.

This wasn’t simply the beginning of a fitness journey.

It was the beginning of becoming a better version of me.

The gym was just the place where that transformation began.
